Mozambique exports ilmenite

Mozambique has just started with the exports of ilmenite, extracted from the Moma Heavy Sands located in Nampula province.

According to “The Irish Times”, Magazine as from AIM, the Kenmare, company holding Irish capitals exploring the Moma Heavy Sands, started with the exportation of 23 thousand tones of ilmenite.

This company was inaugurated in October 2007 by His Excellency, the President of Republic of Mozambique, Mr. Armando Guebuza. With this company, Mozambique has the capacity of contributing with 6% of the World production of ilmenite, zircon and rutile.

Presently, the annual production capacity of Topuito heavy sands will be: 800 thousand tons of ilmenite, 56 thousands of zircon and 21 tons of rutile. The products are used for paints, plastics in ceramics industry, aeronautics and others.
